Triple I was engaged by Rockwell automation to complete the installation for the upgrade of the man and materials winder at the Endevour lead and zinc mine at Cobar. The existing control system was no longer sustainable and did not comply with the current mines regulations.
The project involved upgrading the existing control system.
The work included the installation of the new control panels, interconnecting cabling, installation of the underground control panels and field devices, fibre optic network. The project involved 6 weeks of pre-work and then a 1 week shutdown for the cut over and commissioning. Triple I had 3 days to complete their work on the shutdown. As the winder was critical for the mines operation the deadlines had to be met.
There were a number of complicating factors in the installation and cut over. Logistically as the mine was 50km out of Cobar, The installation had to be completed whilst the winder was in operation with limited down time. Working underground. Working on the winder head and installing equipment and cables that was 50m in the air. Limited time to complete the cut over.
The project was completed on time and on budget. The cut over installation was completed ahead of schedule.
