The approach used in plant upgrades differ from a greenfield site approach. Certainly some decisions may already be made such as standards, but different needs must be addressed.
- In upgrading the plant, you must first ask if your standards are acceptable. You may have to comply to current statutory standards.
- You need to understand what is there now and if not well documented, update your knowledge.
- Do you know where the hardware is in it's life cycle i.e. will a solution based on current approaches continue to be supportable.
- Is the functionality the system provides adequate, or could it be enhanced to provide higher performance.
These are just some of the questions that need to asked and answered.
